UFC Vegas 59 fight card loses two fights hours before event
Tonight’s UFC fight card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas lost two bouts just hours before the event was scheduled to go live on ESPN.
Women’s flyweight Ariane Lipski came in heavy during Friday’s official weigh-in, weighing 2.5 pounds over the allotted 126-pound limit. She was fined 20 percent of her fight purse, but the fight was expected to proceed. Following the weigh-ins, Lipski wasn’t feeling well and was taken to the hospital.
Hours before the event, Lipski was pulled from the fight card after not being medically cleared to compete. She was scheduled to face Priscila Cachoeira. The matchup was pushed back to next week’s UFC on ESPN 41 in San Diego. The bout will take place in the bantamweight division so Lipski doesn’t have to cut weight twice in a two week period.
The welterweight bout between Jason Witt and Josh Quinlan was also removed from Saturday’s fight card and rescheduled for next week’s event. The fight promotion released a statement explaining the two cancellations.

“UFC was notified by USADA that a recent urine sample from Josh Quinlan indicated the presence of a small amount of the M3 metabolite of Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (DHCMT). While not a violation under UFC anti-doping program rules, Nevada State Athletic Commission has ruled the Quinlan is not cleared to fight. As a result, his bout against Jason Witt has been canceled from tonight’s event,” the statement read.
