Report: Steelers OT Dan Moore Jr. Adjustments Brokers

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. has new representation as he heads into the 2023 season. According to Sports Business Journal’s Liz Mullen, Moore has signed on with CAA as his new agency. She notes the specific agents representing him are the trio of Jeff Nalley, Graylan Crain, and Jimmy Sexton.

It’s a departure from Moore’s old agency, Chris Coy of Vanguard Sports Group. The reason for the change in agency is unknown. Moore, entering his third year as the Steelers’ fourth round pick in 2021, isn’t eligible to sign a new contract until after this year, per CBA rules. But perhaps he is getting a jump on the future and for when it’s time to negotiate his first free agent contract beyond the strict confines of rookie deals.

As of today, Moore is the Steelers’ starting left tackle, a role he’s served for the past two seasons. But Pittsburgh has been upgrading its offensive line this offseason, bringing in guards Isaac Seumalo and Nate Herbig, while still taking a look at the top interior linemen in this year’s draft, names like Minnesota’s John Michael Schmitz, Florida’s O’Cyrus Torrence, and TCU’s Steve Avila. The team has also done plenty of homework on the top tackles in the class: Ohio State’s Paris Johnson and Dawand Jones and Tennessee’s Darnell Wright. It seems likely that the team will target a tackle early in this year’s draft, putting Moore’s starting spot in serious jeopardy. Right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor figures to remain a starting tackle in the lineup.

Moore has slowly but steadily progressed his first two years. After a difficult first eight weeks of his NFL career in 2021, he’s improved his pass protection, and his run blocking has been underrated and valuable down the stretch of last season. Still, he’s far from an elite tackle, one area Pittsburgh may be looking to upgrade in next month’s draft.

Sexton is the most notable agent of the three signed to represent him. An NFL agent since the 1980s whose first-ever client was the great Reggie White, Sexton represents some of the biggest names in football. He also represents coaches with a clientele list of names such as Bill Parcells and Nick Saban.
