What made you decide you wanted to be a football player?

I was actually a basketball player first, that was my dream! I wanted to play college basketball and go professionally that way. In the 8th grade I decided that I loved the work that goes into football training in the off season so much more and that was where it switched for me.

What are you looking to achieve as a football player going forward?

Of course dominating at the highest level is the number one goal, but I want to learn! I feel I’ve learned something new each year so I hope to continue that.

If you could hang out with any football player past or present for a day who and why?

Deion Sanders! I think what the media puts out about him shows only a small portion of who he is. I would want to know how he was in games and get to understand his level of focus and preparation! He also wasn’t much of a trash talker and he just performed a high level, which I respect.

What are your favorite moments from your football life?

Any game my mother was able to attend definitely are up there for favorite moments, but being able to score a game winning defensive touchdown with my mom in the end zone I ran into was definitely the best moment!

Which one of your family members inspires you the most and why?

My mother. She never makes excuses for anything and has always found a way to get what she wants in this life.

What is your favorite defensive scheme and why?

I enjoy playing in a 4-2-5 because it forces you to have versatile linebackers, which I am. The defense is multiple and has a lot of speed on the field.

What should we know about David Onyemem the person?

David is a passionate person and expresses that through his consistency and dependability. Being challenged mentally and physically brings out the best in him and that’s what he loves most about himself, but being kind and respected by his community is what most people around him praise most.

What stands out about your film the most?

How do you handle challenges both in life and on the football field?

Throughout my career I’ve always been taught to look inward first. If I haven’t found a solution I’ve never been afraid to ask questions. These tools have allowed me to get good responses from my teammates and peers.

What would a team get in a player like you?

You would get a player who is a sponge and a quick learner. Someone they can depend on, challenge, and set high expectations for.

What do you love the most about the game of football?

The work. When you work hard for something and it comes your way, it’s a great feeling.

Who is the most underrated player you’ve played with and why?

Andre Brackett. Underrated because of height.
